Real ID Travel Deadline: What You Need to Know

Starting May 7, 2025, TSA will require travelers to present a Real ID or another TSA-approved form of identification (such as a U.S. passport) to board domestic flights within the United States. Real ID-compliant driver’s licenses are typically marked with a gold or black star in the top corner.

While getting a Real ID isn’t mandatory, it’s a good idea if you are a frequent traveler or don’t already have a US Passport. To get a REAL ID, you’ll need to visit your state’s DMV with the required documents. Your NewlyNamed name change kit will walk you through how to obtain a Real ID in your state.
