I did not change my name on my marriage certificate. Can I use NewlyNamed to change my name?

If your marriage certificate has a ‘married name’ section and specifically lists your maiden name or indicates that you chose not to change your name after marriage, then in order to change your name you will need to obtain a court order through your county courthouse before you can begin the name change process.

If your marriage certificate does not have a ‘married name’ section and only lists you and your spouse’s names at the time of your marriage, then you’re OK to start the name change process. Most marriage certificates only list each spouse’s name at the time of the marriage and do not list a married name.

If you have any questions about your marriage certificate, please feel free to send us a picture of it to support@newlynamed.com and we will confirm whether or not it will be suitable for your desired name change!
